Solar installs help Jack Buck Farms harvest electricity

The Buck family, who own and operate Jack Buck Farms, have embraced solar technology by installing two separate solar PV systems on the farm’s outbuildings. The 1300-acre site supplies some of the biggest names in the food business, including Tesco and Marks & Spencer, and will now cut its CO2 output by over 30 tonnes a year.

EvoEnergy designed and installed the two separate PV systems over two metal-clad pitched barn roofs. The first installation has a system size of 58.31kWp and is made up of 238 modules, while the second array consists of 60 panels constituting a system size of 14.7kWp.

The arrays are expected to produce 59,596kWh per year, saving the farm over £5,000 in electricity costs and generating almost £20,000 a year from the feed-in tariff, providing a return on investment in just eight to nine years.

Robin Buck says: “We’ve been very pleasantly surprised at how quickly and efficiently the installation has gone. We’ve only had a bit more than a week’s production and the sun went in as we switched on, but output has been well up to expectation.”
