Delivery company DPD has installed a 1MWp rooftop solar PV system at its headquarters to generate roughly 860MWh of electricity each year.
85% of the power supplied by the 5,284m2 system is forecast to be used on site at the firm’s distribution centre in Oldbury, West Midlands.
The array bolsters DPD’s solar portfolio, with arrays already installed atop other sites in the UK.
The install was complicated by the region’s Distribution Network Operator – Western Power Distribution – enforcing a 500kWp export limit owing to local grid constraints. Installer EvoEnergy circumvented the limit by fitting an export power control system to constrain the amount of power exported to the grid.
Mark Wilkes, director of technical services at DPD, said it was “important for us to partner with like-minded businesses and for them to be able to work alongside us delivering on the needs and vision of DPD.”
The system also incorporates SolarEdge’s optimized inverter solution with safety controls which de-energise DC wires whenever AC power is off.
More than 400 tonnes of CO2 are estimated to be saved each year by the installation, which will also deliver feed-in tariff revenue for DPD.
