ET Solar provided 6.068MW of PV modules to the rooftop installation of retailer Marks & Spencer (M&S) distribution centre in the East Midlands of England, at Castle Donington.

This is currently the largest single rooftop solar installation in the UK.

Clive Weatherby, technical director of SBC Renewables, who chose the ET Solar modules, stated that the modules were chosen for their “performance especially at lower levels of irradiation, which is important when deploying them on gently inclined rooftops such as this”.

Mark Group commissioned the installation. More than 24,272 solar modules are installed across 900,000 square feet. The company hopes it will generate over 5,000MWh of electricity a year, enough to power 25% of M&S’ automated distribution centre. The installation, which is already connected to the grid, should reduce Marks & Spencer’s carbon emissions by 48,000 tonnes over the next 20 years.

By 2020, M&S hopes that half of its energy is sourced by renewables.
