A fire that struck the 7.3MW Hope Solar Park near Gwithian, Cornwall, yesterday evening needed to be tackled by three fire crews.
The Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service was called to the incident yesterday afternoon after a fire started in a transformer inverter unit, and crews from nearby Camborne, Hayle and Helston were called to tackle the fire.
In a statement released yesterday at 5:57pm, Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service confirmed it was tackling the blaze with the help of engineers.
The site is managed by renewable energy developer Low Carbon and was first energised in January 2014, almost two years after the farm was granted planning permission.
Low Carbon had yet to respond to requests for comment by Solar Power Portal at the time of publication.
Last month a fire at Hove Town Hall was believed to have been caused by its rooftop solar installation, however the industry leapt to the defence of solar and its otherwise impressive fire safety record.
