Global photovoltaics company Gehrlicher Solar has opened a UK-based subsidiary in Birmingham. Gehrlicher Solar UK was officially registered on March 30, 2011.

While Gehrlicher Solar has been selling photovoltaic components through selected partners in Great Britain for approximately two years, the company was yet to set up camp in the region. This news marks Gehrlicher Solar's next step in its long-term internationalisation strategy.

Jens Schnoor, Head of the Components & Systems division, will be responsible for international business and will also take on the role of Managing Director of the new company. “The British market is of particular interest to us: the feed-in tariffs are attractive, there are a number of large open spaces and the hours of sunshine are comparable to Germany. We will have completed the first large-scale open space projects by the middle of this year and are also planning to significantly expand our distribution operations,” he said.

Alongside Gehrlicher’s offices in Germany, the company currently has subsidiaries in Brazil, France, Greece, India, Italy, Spain, South Africa, USA and now the UK.
