Wiltshire-based solar and biomass installer, IDDEA has completed the installation of a 1.3MW ground-mounted solar array in Devizes, Wiltshire.
The system, which will claim the stand-alone feed-in tariff rates, is located across three hectares of land on the Hopton Industrial Estate.
Commenting on the project, Ian Dunstone, sales director at IDDEA said: “The land at Hopton Industrial Estate was ideal for a solar installation because, due to various covenants being in place and also restrictions resulting from the land’s previous use, it was not possible to develop the land in any other way or use it for agriculture.
“The fact that the land is visible from an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) was, however, a major consideration during the planning and design process, so we are proud to have successfully designed a system which is highly sympathetic to the surrounding land’s AONB status.”
The solar installation is expected to generate around 1.35MWh of electricity annually. The array makes use of modules and inverters supplied by UK distributor, Krannich Solar.
The 1.3MW solar farm is expected to payback within eight years, mitigating the emission of around 1,200 tonnes of CO2 every year it operates.
