A judge has ordered a judicial review of a 28MW planned solar farm in Dorset following protest from a local resident.

The Mapperton project, approved last November, is being built by developer Good Energy on 175 acres of land belonging to the Conservative MP Richard Drax.

Although the project has already received planning consent from East Dorset District Council, a judge has upheld complaints from resident Katherine Butler about the possible visual impact of the project and granted a judicial review.

The review will be held on 1 May in Bristol, the BBC reports.

Solar Power Portal was unable to reach Good Energy for comment.

A statement on the company’s website said that the site had been chosen to minimise the project's visual impacts.

At the time the project was granted approval, the Campaign to Protect Rural England described the project as “damaging”.
