The Microgeneration Certification Scheme has postponed controversial increases to its installation fees just hours before they were due to come into effect.
The MCS confirmed in late August plans to more than double the fee it charges installers to register microgeneration installs to £35 from tomorrow, 22 September 2017.
However this afternoon the scheme revealed that this price increase had been postponed, with no prospective date for its implementation given.
“Following feedback from the industry, the MCS Scheme has taken the decision to postpone the implementation of the Installation Fee increase which was due to come into effect on 22nd September 2017. The implementation of the Installer Fee decrease is unchanged. The Scheme appreciates the process of raising the installation fee has caused issues and concern for the industry,” a statement read.
MCS said it was to publish revised dates for the implementation of the install fee increase “in due course”.
The price increase was roundly criticised as a “cash grab” by installers despite the scheme arguing that it was necessary for it to remain sustainable.
