Solar PV developer, OPDE has started construction of an 8.9MW solar farm in Eastbourne, East Sussex.
The company states that the new solar farm represents an investment of £7.9 million and will produce enough electricity to power more than 2,600 local homes, negating the emission of around 88,000 tonnes of CO2 during the project’s lifetime.
The company claims that the project forms part of a 200MW-strong UK project pipeline and that OPDE is on track to meet its objective of connecting 100MW of solar capacity to the grid before renewable obligation support for solar farms over 5MW is scrapped in April 2015.
The company said that the new solar farm “is an important step towards meeting our objective of connecting 100MW of PV capacity by March 2015. This project is part of an active and successful UK development pipeline including a 12MWp solar farm, which was successfully connected in March 2014, and 6.9MWp solar farm in Hothfield where construction is due commence imminently.”
The company recently won planning consent for an 18MW solar farm in Iwade, Kent.
