Commercial rooftop solar specialist Photon Energy has continued to benefit from a strong relationship with Willmott Dixon, completing a 165.5kW solar install on one of its latest new build developments.

The construction giant completed work on the £23 million Hart Leisure Centre in Hampshire, which opened its doors earlier this month.

During its development Photon was contracted to install a 165.5kW rooftop system, making full use of the building’s long span roof structure which provided a column-free environment.

More than 600 Trina mono-crystalline 275W panels were mounted in a single area of the building’s roof, in full view of the public to promote awareness of the council’s emissions reduction efforts.

The system is expected to generate around 152,390kWh of electricity each year and Abu Luswata, senior engineer at Photon, said the company was proud to have been involved with the high-profile project.

Brian Woodford, services manager at Willmott Dixon, added: “It was a pleasure to work with Photon Energy, their project managers and site team were very professional throughout the design and installation process. We’re very happy with the quality of the end result and I wouldn’t hesitate to work with them again in the future.”

The install continues Photon’s relationship with the main contractor having previously collaborated on another new build project in September last year; Bournemouth University’s new ‘Fusion Building’.

With the retrofit market faltering a number of solar installers are finding the new build market more fruitful. Cumbria-based Dulas this morning said new build work made up nearly 100% of what it had been contracted to do since the turn of the year.
