Photon Energy is continuing its long-standing partnership with Bournemouth University, installing a 108kWp solar system.

The install, which is set to go on the roof of the new teaching building Poole Gateway House, is the fifth with the university. The first – a 27.5kWp system on the Student Centre – was installed in 2014.

Since then, Photon Energy has installed a 95.22kWp system – generating over 100,000kWh of electricity annually – followed by two further systems sized at 145.45kWp and 41.4kWp.

The new system consists of 300 Sunpower 360Wp modules and SolarEdge inverters.

Photon Energy is working with construction and property services firm and frequent collaborators Willmott Dixon for the construction of Poole Gateway House. Alongside the solar, Bournemouth University is also investing in energy efficiency measures for the building.

Abu Luswata, senior project engineer of Photon Energy, said the project will not only benefit the university but also create awareness about renewables for staff and students.

“It was a pleasure to be asked to come back and work with Willmott Dixon on such an interesting project committed to having a positive impact on the environment, demonstrating the commitment of the University to reduce its carbon footprint,” Luswata continued.

London Goldsmiths University also revealed plans for more solar in the past week, announcing that it’s looking to install “significantly” more solar in response to the climate emergency.
