UK shipping firm MMD Shipping Services has partnered with EvoEnergy to install a 1.16MW rooftop array at its import facility in Portsmouth.

EvoEnergy fitted ReneSola-supplied panels to three refrigeration warehouses at the site towards the end of 2014 and the system is now generating an average of 3,000kWh per day, helping MMD to save more than 600 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.

A ten-man team of installers and electricians conducted the work using skilled rope-access techniques, scissor lifts and demarcation markers to complete the work in six weeks. James Sutton, project manager at EvoEnergy, said the work had to be done in such a fashion due to the requirement of minimal disruption to the firm’s operations.

“The finished system is enormous and is already delivering impressive savings. It generated more than 2MW in power in one day in February recently so when summer arrives on the South Coast the panels should perform even better,” Sutton added.

The installation by Nottingham-based EvoEnergy comes after the firm completed work on the ‘Walkie Talkie’ skyscraper at 20 Fenchurch Street in London, a project which saw the firm install a 50kWp array on top of the 38-storey building.
