Banco Santander's UK arm has started construction on a 32MW solar farm in Suffolk.
The Broxted Solar Farm project, covering 62.7 hectares of a former RAF airfield, is being developed by Lark Energy, who has achieved consent for over 150MWp in the UK, and completed and connected around 75MWp – with the rest to be built out over the coming months.
Planning permission for Broxted Solar Farm was applied for in September by Lark Energy and granted in December 2012, and will be one of UK’s biggest solar farms.
The project is the second largest investment in UK solar from Banco Santander, and will be part of a portfolio to be constructed over the next six months, Oliver Alexander, executive director of Santander Asset & Capital Structuring, told Bloomberg in a statement.
Santander is the largest bank in Europe and and has financed 6,487MW of renewable projects across Spain, Brazil, Canada, Chile, America, Italy, Australia, Mexico and Uruguay.
