Solar Cloth Company (SCC) has named former Cambridge Cognition CFO David Blair as its new chief financial officer as the technology firm continues to expand on its core staff.

Blair’s appointment comes just months after SCC named Mike Staplehurst as its new chief executive, and the company said the arrivals signify the “next phase of maturity” for the solar supplier.

Staplehurst said SCC had been on a “whirlwind journey” since it crowdfunded and was now a “fully mature commercial business”.

“We’ve started to see some real traction with several projects with local governments and major UK retailers, and we’ve been driving up our operations as a result.

“Having David on board, with his vast experience, and his enthusiasm for what we’re trying to achieve with the Solar Cloth Company is a key step for our organisation, and we’re glad to have him as a key part of our team moving forward,” Staplehurst added.

Blair has previously held roles at Prelude Trust and PricewatehouseCoopers and has specialised in advising SMEs over the last 15 years, helping around 50 companies to raise public and private funds worth more than £200 million.

Blair, who has started his position with immediate effect, said SCC was at a “key stage” in its evolution and that the technology it was developing was not only capable of adding shareholder value, but also address “many of the key issues facing society today”.
