The Solar Power Portal and Energy Storage News Awards 2018 is now just a matter of weeks away and our respective shortlists have been made public.

More than 70 projects and companies have been shortlisted across this year’s 15 public categories, with the winners set to be crowned during the gala dinner ceremony at the Hilton Metropole Birmingham on Wednesday 17 October 2018.

This year’s ceremony will be hosted by esteemed architect and TV personality George Clarke, with around 600 industry professionals set to attend.

As we countdown to the ceremony, Solar Power Portal is to shine the spotlight on this year’s shortlisted nominations, and today we look at the Storage Business Model Innovation category.

The shortlisted entries are;

  • The Olde House, Local Energy Marketplace Cornwall – redT, Centrica
  • Limejump Virtual Power Plant – Limejump
  • Anesco’s Storage Revenue Modelling – Anesco
  • Flexitricity+ – Flexitricity

RedT claimed to have broken new ground in the UK energy storage market when it completed a 1MWh solar-plus-storage project at The Olde House – a guest house – in Cornwall. Utilising redT’s vanadium redux flow machine technology, the company partnered with Centrica and its Local Energy Marketplace trial to demonstrate the economic viability of solar-plus-storage for C&I entities.

The technology has been used to boost The Olde House’s consumption of self-generated energy and significantly reduce energy bills in the process, but that’s only half of the story. The storage element is used to provide grid services via an aggregator in exchange for revenue, while energy is also traded with other businesses and homes as part of Centrica’s LEM.

But is it enough to see redT and Centrica take home the gong? All be will revealed at this year’s Solar Power Portal and Energy Storage News Awards.
