Last month, Solar Power Portal revealed the shortlists for this year’s Solar Power Portal and Clean Energy Awards, sponsored by Trina Solar.

More than 60 projects have been shortlisted across 12 categories ahead of what promises to be a glittering occasion at Birmingham NEC’s Hilton Metropole, hosted by stand up comedian Jimmy Carr.

In the latest article of a series of shortlist spotlight features, here are the nominees for 2016’s Clean Energy Product Innovation award.

  • The University of Sheffield, Sheffield Solar – PV_Live
  • sonnenBatterie – eco 8
  • Above Surveying – SolarGain
  • Open Energi – Dynamic Demand
  • Solar Slate Plate – Solar Slate Plate roof hooks
  • Enphase – The Enphase Storage System/AC Battery
  • LG Electronics UK – LG NeON 2 BiFacial
  • Solfit – The Solfit Top Loader

LG’s bifacial model builds on the success of its NeON 2 module by incorporating bifacial technology to significantly boost its output. Having previously been available at outputs of up to 300W, the BiFacial edition can offer up to 20% more productivity with outputs of up to 375Wp.

The LG NeON 2 comprises a transparent backsheet that instead of absorbing irradiance like traditional materials, bounces particles back through the module for additional generation. The modules also incorporate LG’s CELLO technology, and the manufacturer has also extended the panel’s warranty to 12 years.

The winner of this year’s Clean Energy Product Innovation award will be announced at the awards ceremony on 5 October. Tickets are now available and can be purchased online here, or by contacting [email protected].
