Rolec EV is launching a solar powered electric vehicle (EV) charger for homeowners who have, or intend to have, solar.

The WallPod:Ev SolarCharge includes two charging modes, allowing for charging from a combination of solar and the grid or solar alone. The first mode, The Solar + Grid Charge, monitors solar being generated, highlights it on the data screen and tops up the shortfall from the grid.

The second mode, the Solar Only mode, allows for an EV to be charged solely off solar power. The mode monitors and tracks power generation by the solar array and limits the charge provided to the EV, matching the power produced by the panels.

A summary data screen is also provided, giving access to historical charging activity that includes total charging kilowatts, solar supplied kilowattss versus grid supplied kilowatts, as well as the percentage of charging provided by solar and the amount of CO2 saved.

Kieron Alsop, Rolec’s MD, says the solar powered chargers are just the start.

“We are delighted to launch EV SolarCharge, which is the first of a number of exciting new smart enabled EV charging products due to be released over the next month or so.”

The chargers provide Mode 3 fast charging in both both 3.6kW and 7.2kW formats and are compatible with all current EVs and plug-in hybrid EVs.
