Solarcentury picks up international award for Sunstation

Solarcentury's latest building-integrated PV panel has picked up a prestigious international award at the iF Design Awards 2016.

Sunstation was recognised in the building technology category of the product discipline after entering the competition alongside over 5,000 other submissions from over 50 countries across the awards’ seven disciplines.

Jon Sturgeon, head of product development at Solarcentury, said: “Earning international recognition for Sunstation is testament to the talented innovation team at Solarcentury, as well as our manufacturing partner - JA Solar.”

The company received the prize at the iF Design Awards ceremony held on 26 February at BMW Welt in Munich, with the 2016 ceremony marking over 60 years of the design awards taking place.

Sunstation was launched in October last year and is available to customers in the Netherlands and the UK, which has seen its domestic solar market suffer from cuts to government subsidy. Despite this challenge, chief executive of Solarcentury, Frans van den Heuvel, believes Sunstation remains well placed to serve this market.

“Residential solar is now coming of age, especially in more mature solar markets where homeowners are increasingly discerning and demand affordable but stylish solar products that preserve the look of their roof,” he explained.

“Sunstation makes solar more accessible than ever – and making solar accessible has always been part of our mission – and this award win is sure to further stimulate interest in Sunstation, which is ready for mass market adoption. We’re very excited to be helping homeowners to generate their own energy using an award-winning solar system.”
