Solarcentury has been named amongst the 200 fastest growing private UK companies in terms of international sales in this year’s The Sunday Times HSBC International Track 200.

The London-based solar manufacturer ranked 103rd out of 200 and was the only renewable company to be included in the shortlist. The company secured its position in the table by increasing its international sales by 176 percent from 2008 to 2011. The company, which has bases in Italy, France, Benelux and the UK, experienced a compound annual growth rate of 39 percent from 2009 to 2011 based on a growth of turnover of £12.6 million to £24.4 million. The company is attributing its success to strong sales in France and Italy as well as increased demand for its building integrated solutions, such as the C21e tiles.

Frans van den Heuvel, CEO, Solarcentury said: “Solarcentury's success has in part come from a deliberate strategy of expanding into new overseas markets and delivering exciting new international projects, building on our UK reputation for installation and products of the highest quality.  So I'm delighted that our international performance has been recognised.

“We intend to build on that success by cementing our presence in Italy, France and Benelux and by developing new opportunities outside Europe as solar energy becomes competitive with the existing electricity grid in an increasing number of countries around the world. Importantly, the more we can grow profitably in multiple markets the more we can contribute to the charity we created, SolarAid, also fast growing in terms of its solar light sales in Africa.”
