Solarport Systems has released a new solar mounting system to the market which it says enables solar to be installed on slopes steeper than 30 degrees.

The mounting manufacturer worked with installation partner HBS New Energies and its technical partner SW Geotech to develop the system, dubbed Spirafix.

Spirafix uses spiral-shaped ground anchors that twist outwards from the main mount (as shown below), reducing the need for piling rigs. Solarport also claimed the system could reduce installation costs for solar arrays below 1MW in size and remove the risk of using heavy machinery on unstable ground.

The system has been designed and manufactured entirely in the UK and Solarport Systems’ Dave Tattershall labelled it a “another design and engineering success story” for UK solar.

Spirafix mounts were used in a 250kW project for the Coal Authority at a former mining site earlier this year.
