A Welsh dairy farm, E O Morris and Son, has seen the install of a £20,000 rooftop solar system.
The twin-solar system has been designed and installed by Welsh renewables installer Haford Renewables.
E O Morris and Son’s dairy farm, located on the Denbighshire-Flintshire border at Marian Mawr, already has a wind turbine installed. The new solar install has seen 36 solar PV panels and an additional six solar thermal panels mounted on the farm’s outhouse buildings.
It’s hoped that the solar will help the farm – which produces four million litres of milk a year – to cut its £400 a week electricity bill, saving it around £3,000 a year. As a result, the farm now plans to expand its herd of 420 cows to 500.
David Jones, managing director of Hafod Renewables, said: “Solar panels makes sense for dairy farms because they have massive roof space and they use lots of electricity and systems like this can literally save them thousands so they pay for themselves very quickly.”
