Balance Power has been given the green light to develop a 50MW/100MWh battery storage project in Upton Lane, Test Valley, Hampshire.

Test Valley Council granted development approval following local support, and construction of the site will now begin later this year.

“Against the backdrop of the ongoing energy crisis, we are proud of our work with Test Valley Council,” Phil Thompson, CEO at Balance Power.

“The project will play a vital role in balancing distribution, stabilising the grid, and protecting consumers from fuel poverty over the long term.”

Upton Lane is one of 32 energy projects the company has gained planning consent for so far, delivering 352MW.

It has 1200MW of battery storage and solar projects under development currently, including 380MW of battery storage in the planning process.

The approval follows Balance Power’s 30MW North Tawton battery storage project gaining approval from West Devon Borough Council in November 2021.
