The Solar Power Portal Awards 2017 is now just a matter of weeks away and the shortlisted entrants have all been publicised.

Nearly 60 nominations have been shortlisted across the 12 public categories, the winners from which will be announced during the gala dinner ceremony at the Hilton Metropole Birmingham on Wednesday 4 October 2017.

The occasion, always one of the highlights of the UK solar calendar, will this year be hosted by TV personality and renowned renewables advocate Robert Llewellyn.

As we countdown to the ceremony, Solar Power Portal is to shine the spotlight on this year’s shortlisted nominations, and today we look at the International Solar Project category.

The shortlisted entries are;

  • Collaborative Renewable Power Procurement Team – A Better City, CustomerFirst Renewables, MIT, Boston Medical Center, Friends of Post Office Square
  • National Museum of Bermuda – Low Carbon
  • PV lease model for German private households – MEP Werke GmbH
  • 36MW solar farm in Jodhpur District, India – Sterling and Wilson

Low Carbon has laid claim to the largest solar installation in Bermuda with the 194-panel ground-mount system developed for the National Museum of Bermuda, which it completed to help fully offset the energy consumption of Land Rover BAR’s sailing team on the island within two years.

The system is expected to generate 93,600kWh of clean electricity each year and is to reduce the building’s electricity bills by 20% over the course of the system’s 30-year lifespan, saving as much as 1,290 tonnes of carbon in the process.

The figures are impressive, but will they be enough to land Low Carbon a coveted Solar Power Portal Award trophy? All will be revealed on 4 October 2017.
