Cheltenham-based legal firm BPE Solicitors has launched a new team which will work exclusively within the renewable energy industry.

The foundation of BPE’s renewable energy team comes on the back of the solicitors advising on more solar projects with a total capacity in excess of 190MW over the course of the past 18 months, and the firm also has 248MW of projects in its pipeline.

The team is to advise funders, developers and EPC contractors on various aspects of the renewables space from its offices in Cheltenham, London, Bristol and Bath.

BPE Renewables’ most notable work includes advising SBC Renewables subsidiary EMDC Solar on the rooftop solar array at Marks & Spencer’s distribution centre in Castle Donnington, providing legal advice on the lease, construction and PPA.

“Given our significant finance experience, we aim to reverse engineer projects to ensure they are bankable from inception. No two deals are the same, but the market expectations dictate the need for creative solutions to fit the requirements of institutional investors,” Tim Williams, partner at BPE Renewables, said.
