Energy storage firm Sembcorp UK has announced that Andy Koss will be joining the company as the new head of business.
Koss has previously worked at biomass giant Drax, where he was most recently chief executive of generation. He had been with the company for 15 years and also held positions as director of strategy, head of investor relations, group treasurer and head of risk.
Koss said he was delighted to be joining the Sembcorp and looking forward to “using my experience to accelerate its growth as an integrated energy company”.
“The UK’s steady transition to net zero by 2050 presents many opportunities for us to provide more innovative value through sustainable solutions to our customers and expand our business presence in the market.”
He will take over from Nomi Ahmad as the head of the UK subsidiary of the Sembcorp Industries Group on 3 August. Ahmad is returning to Singapore to take up a executive position in the Group.
The company is working to establish itself as a flexible, rapid-response power player in the UK, and now has 40 sites around the country. It has a total operational portfolio of 973MW, which includes battery storage sites.
In October, the company saw 60MW of energy storage that it developed with Fluence come online. The project was lauded as one of the largest transacted fleets of its kind in Europe, made up of three 20MW sites.
Neil McGregor, group president and CEO of Sembcorp Industries said: “I am pleased that Andy has accepted our offer to helm our operations in the UK as we seek to accelerate our business offerings in key low-carbon growth areas.
“I believe that together with the continued support from our people, local leadership and partners, Andy will be well-positioned to steer the company in the right direction.”
