Wirsol has completed its first UK solar project, installing a 29.6 kilowatt system at Sharnbrook School in Bedfordshire. The leading German solar provider, which has recently opened a UK-based office, completed the installation in just five working days.
The 29.6kWp installation will provide electricity for the school’s new building and to help control energy costs in the overall expansion of the school premises. Wirsol utilised Yingli solar panels and SMA inverter stations at Sharnbrook, which is the first in a line of projects scheduled to receive solar installations by the company, for regional colleges and schools in both the public and private sector.
Peter Davies, Managing Director of Wirsol UK said, “Having opened for business here in the Kettering area only a few weeks ago, and with our clients’ residential and commercial premises already benefitting from Wirsol’s solar PV installations, it is exciting for us now to see the completion of our first – of what we plan to be very many – education sector projects. Wirsol is expanding rapidly in the UK, hiring staff at all levels, from experienced company directors to installation experts right across the UK, as we intend to become a key national solar PV player during 2011.”
Kirk Sharp, Deputy Head Teacher at Sharnbrook, and the school’s project manager for the all the recent construction said, “As part of the continuing expansion of our facilities here, we had been naturally concerned by the probable big increase in our energy bills. However, we looked at all the renewable energy options, and were delighted when Wirsol came to us with their proposals. The decision to go with Wirsol’s solar photovoltaic energy panels will make an immediate impact, both as our commitment to the environment, and most directly, on our annual running costs.”
