British Gas has partnered with Forster Group to extend its solar reach into Scotland, enabling it to meet growing customer demand for solar panel and battery storage technology.

Susan Wells, low carbon homes director at British Gas, said: “We are committed to delivering the right products and solutions to help people cut carbon in their homes and save money on their bills in a way that works for them through British Gas and Hive.”

Forster Group is one of the largest solar panel installers in Scotland. It provides solar services to one in five new homes in the country. The partnership will also increase the number of accredited engineers British Gas works with by 55%.

“Forster’s impressive track record in Scotland will allow us to meet the growing demand for solar and provide customers with expert advice and installations,” Wells added.

Last year British Gas launched its solar offering in England and Wales with Effective Home. Now, the effort is nationwide and the company can install solar power and battery tech for eligible customers in Scotland, England and Wales for the first time.

Customers currently get a free consultation for solar panel installation ‘tailored to their energy usage and home layout’, giving estimated costs, savings, and installation options without any commitment.

The partnership with Forster Group comes just a month after British Gas was awarded a £200 million contract from the Welsh Government’s Warm Homes scheme.

Last year, Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) data showed that over 183,000 solar installations were carried out across the UK. Research in the British Gas Homes Index showed that 42% of people said they were considering installing solar panels in the next two years.

John Forster, chair and founder of Forster Group, said: “We are seeing solar power and battery technology playing an essential role in the country’s transition to Net Zero and with consumer appetite growing, more people now have the ability to take control of their own energy usage and make huge savings generating their own power.

“We are excited to join forces with British Gas and share their vision for a more sustainable energy future.”
