Canadian Solar, one of the world’s largest solar companies, has set a new solar cell efficiency record of 21.1 percent with its ELPS solar cell. According to the module manufacturer, this is the highest performance reached to date for a P-type mono-crystalline cell.
In order to achieve the new record, Canadian Solar’s ELPS cells feature a Metal Wrap Through (MWT) design, which moves the front busbars to the back of the cells allowing 3 percent more light absorption per cell. As a result, ELPS modules deliver up to 7 percent more electricity than similar configuration conventional solar modules.
The Canadian Solar company is set to demonstrate the record-breaking cells at this year’s upcoming Intersolar Europe in Munich. Canadian Solar will also present its new CS6A-P module, which uses 48 pieces of 156mm x 156mm poly-silicon cells. CS6A-P will have power output up to 205W.
Canadian Solar’s ELPS module has been nominated for the Intersolar Award 2012 in the photovoltaics category.
