Boosting the amount of solar power in Wales, the United Welsh Housing Association and Torfaen County Borough Council have formed a purchasing consortium to let a one-year framework contract for the design, supply and installation of solar photovoltaic systems in the country.
Contractors are now being sought for a £54 million programme of works to the install solar panels on 9,000 existing residential or commercial propertiesin Wales. Up to 15 framework partners are envisaged.
The £54 million will be split into three lots and will be distributed across the country. Lot one covers 1,000 properties for United Welsh Housing Association and has a value of £6 million while lot two is for 3,000 properties owned by Torfaen County Borough Council and is worth £18 million. The final lot is for works for other invited Welsh housing associations and local authorities, expected to comprise 5,000 properties and have a value of £30 million.
