Abbey Fields Community Centre in Winchcombe was awarded £6,100 to go towards developing its solar power system. Tewkesbury Borough Council provided a second round of funding to help the Cotswold-based building to generate more than 8,000kWh of renewable electricity each year.
This grant follows a previous borough council funding contribution of more than £290,000, which was delivered to set up the centre in 2005. Winchcombe Town Council also donated £10,000 towards the scheme.
Abbey Fields Community Centre Projects Trustee John Gerrard said, “We are delighted they have given us additional financial support for our ‘green’ project.”
The system was installed by Bristol-based Ethical Solar and consists of 45 solar panels.
