Foresight Solar has revealed it contracted Trina Solar to supply the modules for the 2.2MW extension to its 32.2MW Wymeswold Solar Farm in Leicestershire.
Wymeswold, developed on the site of a former RAF airfield, was connected to the grid in March 2013 and received 2ROC accreditation for its 32.2MW capacity before being acquired by Foresight in November that year.
The 2.2MW extension was connected to the grid ahead of last month’s 1.4ROC deadline, and Foresight confirmed it does not affect the 2ROC accreditation it receives for the initial capacity.
Trina supplied its 265W mono-crystalline Honey PV modules to power the extension and Richard Rushin, UK sales manager at Trina Solar, said the company expects the latest module to build on the farm’s success to date.
“This particular site is significant in that it is a very strong example of how solar farms can generate large amounts of clean energy without disrupting their environments; the airfield’s racetrack is still in use, while sheep graze between and around the panels,” he added.
