Oslo-headquartered renewable developer Fred. Olsen Renewables has unveiled plans to develop a hybrid onshore wind, solar, and battery energy storage project in Scotland.
The project, capable of generating 100MW of green energy, will be located in the Scottish Borders and see the implementation of a £7 million community benefit fund.
Fred. Olsen submitted plans for the Lees Hill Renewable Energy Park to the Scottish government with the project having already been subject to public consultation since 2022. The submitted proposals comprise six turbines up to 200m to tip, a 60MW solar installation, and 60MW battery energy storage.
The development will also facilitate a community benefit fund worth over £200,000 per year to the local communities closest to the site, totalling over £7 million over the project’s 35-year lifespan.

Renewco unveils 39MW BESS project in Scotland
Earlier today (23 April), Renewco Power and development partner Locogen announced that planning permission has been granted for a new solar and battery storage project in Fife, Scotland.
The £50 million project, dubbed Glenniston Solar Farm, was greenlit after a detailed consultation period with the local community and experts across various councils. The solar and co-located battery storage site will have a generating capacity of 39MW.
Renewco said the site could power around 18,000 homes, which equates to roughly 22,590 tonnes of carbon emission savings a year. It also said the project will incorporate biodiversity enhancements, offer a local annual community benefit fund of about £23,400 and contribute business rates to the wider Fife community.
