GGFi, the insurance division of the Glass & Glazing Federation, has launched a new insurance-backed scheme, designed to protect consumers from the possibility that their installer ceases to trade.

Solar Insure covers MCS accredited installers of solar photovoltaics and solar thermal systems and offers installers the opportunity to provide their domestic customers with insurance-backed guarantee protection. Solar Insure protects the parts installed as well as the workmanship for up to 10 years should the installer shut up shop.

GGFi’s General Manager, Lee Appleton, said: “Since it originated in 2005, GGFi has built an immense reputation for providing quality, cost-effective IBG’s to the Glazing industry, but we realise that one size does not fit all. We have taken our time putting the Solar Insure product together to make sure we get the mix absolutely right for MCS accredited installers. GGFi’s motto since we started in 2005 has been Quality Insurance Made Simple, and we have stuck to that ethos with the Solar Insure scheme.”

GGFi has waived the vetting fee to join Solar Insure for all installers that apply before the end of April 2012.
