The energy and climate change minister, Greg Barker, will announce the launch of the solar energy roadmap at Solar Energy UK tomorrow.
The roadmap will confirm the Department of Energy and Climate Change’s next steps ahead of the official Solar Strategy document that will now be published in Spring 2014.
Solar Power Portal understands that the roadmap is expected to restate the often repeated 20GW by 2020 solar ambition. The solar strategy will aim to set out in detail how the government and the private sector can work together to capitalise on the sector’s growth.
Commenting on solar’s potential in the UK, Barker said: “Solar power is an exciting and dynamic technology, with costs continuing to fall. It has a key part to play in the UK’s energy mix. The coalition is firmly committed to working with industry to drive forward investment in this high growth green sector.”
The minister will take the stage at 10:00am in the Technology Theatre area, Hall 3, NEC, on Tuesday 8 October. The organisers have advised all attendees to arrive at 9:30 in order to clear registration in time for the minister’s address.
Solar Power Portal will report full details of the minister’s announcement following his speech tomorrow.
