The Italian Embassy in London is now generating its own clean electricity thanks to a 7.5kWp solar array installed on its roof.
The solar installation was carried out by Essex-based installer, Signature Solar and was facilitated by Libra Energy’s ‘Preferred Installer’ program. Work on the solar array was first initiated by Italian energy company, Gala .Spa which asked Libra Energy to undertake a feasibility study on the Embassy’s roof.
After assessing the solar potential of the building, it became clear that the site presented a number of different challenges, namely its location and the constrained roof space. In addition, the client has specific requirements for the installation which added to the complexity. The solar array had to use only EU equipment and the modules had to be manufactured in Italy. The company chose Solsonica Panels, Van Der Valk under construction and Solar Edge inverters and optimisers.
“This was a prestigious project for us to win,” explained Libra Energy UK general manager, Paul Bradbury. “It was rewarding that Gala.Spa came to us first to source a solution for the Embassy and we were delighted to offer a workable design solution that has proved to be effective for this particular job. We were happy to work with Simon and the team at Signature Solar who have done an excellent job on the roof above central London.”
Simon Fowler, technical director at Signature Solar, added: “When Paul came to us and asked us to undertake the installation at the Italian Embassy, we were ready to respond knowing the design would work.” Fowler continued: “Despite the complexities that the roof space provided, we were able to follow the spec and deliver a system that does what the Embassy staff require.“
