Solarcentury founder and world renowned environmentalist Jeremy Leggett has won the Solar Power Portal outstanding achievement award at this year’s Solar Power Portal Awards, held last night at The Vox, Birmingham NEC.
Leggett was present to receive the prize and was welcomed to the stage by Solar Media chief executive David Owen, and said he was humbled to receive the award.
Other big winners on the night included Solarsense who took home the installation company of the year award, sponsored by Rexel Energy Solutions, and Joju Solar, who were highly commended in both the installation company and best rooftop project sub-250kW categories, as well as being a co-winner of the best community benefit award alongside Low Carbon Hub.
Belectric UK-backed Big60Million clinched the best solar finance innovation award for its work in launching a number of crowdfunded solar farms in which local residents are offered shares, while Solstice Renewables took home the coveted best ground-mount project over 5MW for its 20.4MW Manor Farm project in Verwood.
The awards were hosted by environmental author and radio presenter Leo Johnson, who said that the industry must steel itself for the immediate future.
