Lightsource has laid claim to completing Northern Ireland’s largest solar development after energising a 32MW project in Country Antrim.
The project consists of five separate solar arrays – sized between 5MW and 10MW – which share a single grid connection.
The developer has also completed a single 6MW project at Millar Farm in Antrim, taking Lightsource’s solar portfolio in the country to 44MW having last year connected a 5MW solar farm adjacent to Belfast International Airport.
The completed projects make Lightsource’s portfolio the largest in Northern Ireland and with additional solar farms nearing completion, chief executive Nick Boyle said he was delighted to complete them.
“In a post Brexit environment, it is also good news that we are developing local projects that make Northern Ireland’s energy supply more secure and reduce the need for imported gas and other fossil fuels.
“We look forward to announcing further projects in the months ahead and to growing our business in Northern Ireland,” he added.
