Solar energy generator Lightsource Renewable Energy has purchased two solar parks totalling 9.6MW from Germany-based project developer Wirsol.

The two parks, Hewas with a capacity of 6MW and Penhale which has a capacity of 3.6MW, located in Cornwall are expected to be completed shortly before the Renewable Obligations Certificate (ROC) scheme drops from 2ROCs to 1.6ROCs in April.

Wirsol will remain under an operations and maintenance contract to ensure both plants perform at optimal generation levels.

“It has been made very clear in recent times that solar is a key component in the UK’s drive towards its renewable energy targets. We hope solar subsidies will continue at sensible levels to assist in making solar competitive with other energy sources and our goal of reaching grid parity within a predicted six years”, says Nick Boyle, CEO of Lightsource Renewable Energy.
