Magna Science Adventure Centre in Rotherham has received planning permission for what will be one of the largest solar photovoltaic roofs in the UK. Rotherham-based WS Systems, which rents land and roof space in order to install solar power, will lead the project.
Set in the former Templeborough steelworks, Magna will feature solar panels installed on its 700m long stretch of south facing roof space. The energy produced by the panels will be used to power the building and attraction, which will display an energy themed exhibit featuring a working solar installation, with a real time display of the electricity generated and carbon savings.
No details of the size of the system or the technology that will be used have been revealed.
