The Merrill family from Somerset decided to replace their roof in May 2006. Instead of simply retiling with conventional building materials, they chose to power their home with Solarcentury's C21e solar electric roof tiles. These tiles integrate seamlessly with normal roof tiles.
The solar installation consisted of 40 solar tiles, covering 15m² of roof space. The Merrill family's aim was to install solar tiles that didn't effect the look of their home, as well as reducing their carbon footprint and their electricity bill.
“We really wanted to minimise our carbon emissions by generating our own clean power” says David Merrill. “We liked the solar tiles because they're a great innovation and very practical, making solar electricity a simple, secure investment,” said Mr. Merill.
