BayWa r.e. has amassed 2GW in its solar and wind management portfolio since entering the UK O&M market in 2017.

The portfolio consists of both utility scale solar and wind projects across the UK, hitting 2GW due to a combination of organic growth and strategic acquisitions, the firm said, with growth spurred by “significant” renewable energy service contracts.

BayWa r.e. launched its renewable energy service in late 2017 in the UK and now has almost 100 employees across three locations.

In the last two years, the firm has racked up a series of partnerships, taking on the management of assets from Octopus Renewables – formerly known as Octopus Investments – as well as contracts with the likes of Magnetar Solar, Metka EGN and Good Energy. It also acquired Beacon Consultancy in 2018.

Oliver Niedhöfer, MD of BayWa r.e. Operation Service Limited, said the milestone was “quite remarkable” to have achieved in just over two years.

“The UK is one of our core markets and we are very pleased to be supporting its commitment to its green energy goals,” he added.

Tobias Bittkau, BayWa r.e.’s global director of services, confirmed the firm had “exciting” plans in the pipeline for the UK.

“Supporting the UK in achieving its renewable energy targets is a big driver for us,” Bittkau continued.

“With more than 7 GW of operated assets worldwide, we are contributing significantly to the global renewable energy transition, with the UK leading the way as one of our biggest markets,” Bittkau continued.
