Brighton Energy Coop (BEC) has bolstered its pipeline of community-owned solar projects with 730kW worth of new projects.
The installs, planned for schools, colleges and other buildings in the Brighton area, will bring BEC’s total portfolio of community-owned projects towards the 2.5MW mark.
All installs are to be constructed under the feed-in tariff regime and will be complemented by a mix of on-site power purchase agreements and export payments.
GenFit, BEC’s long-time installation partner, will carry out the installations.
Will Cottrell, chairman at BEC, said the projects earmarked for schools in the area stand to save them thousands of pounds on their energy bills each year.
“Funded by our community, this is proof that community energy is alive and kicking in the South East. We've new projects coming online all the time; our new installations will see BEC grow by 50% over the next twelve months.”
