UK solar developer British Solar Renewables (BSR) has received planning consent for its 49.9MW Fambridge Solar Park.

Following a consultation period during the 2020 lockdown, BSR submitted the planning application for the site – which includes a 25MW battery facility – in June 2021.

Rochford District Council has unanimously approved the project, which will sit on Green Belt land at South Fambridge, Essex.

“This consent comes at a significant moment for BSR, as we look to 2022 and the delivery of our ambitious growth plan and 1GW delivery pipeline,” said Tim Humpage, CEO of BSR.

“We are delighted that Rochford District Council recognises that urgent action needs to be taken to address climate change. It is well considered projects like Fambridge Solar Park and those that will follow it, which will be critical to ensuring energy security and achieving the UK’s commitment to a net zero future.”

The project is expected to deliver a biodiversity net gain of 58%, as well as its business rate contribution exceeding £120,000 in its first year of operation.

BSP now has a portfolio of over 700MW of solar PV, along with its initial 1GW PV development pipeline in the UK and Australia.

In August, the company announced it was exploring acquisition opportunities after recognising it will need increased access to construction finance and growth capital.
