Energeo’s data looked at over 25,000 buildings in the East Hampshire District to establish the suitability of projects.
Energeo is developing a rooftop solar PV suitability database for over 25,000 buildings in the East Hampshire District, as part of a portfolio of community renewable energy intelligence support.
The portfolio will also include an assessment of over 500 square kilometres of land which has potential to be used for ground mount solar.
The data and AI company – which is now part of Geospatial Insight Limited – will provide the datasets to community groups in the district, allowing them to identify the most beneficial locations for the rollout of solar PV, and determine opportunities to aggregate projects across East Hampshire.
Ian Dee, climate applications lead at Geospatial Insight said they were delighted to be supporting the community led schemes.
“Community energy projects are critical in empowering citizens and enabling them to make a real-world contribution to achieving climate targets, generating clean energy for utilisation locally and, in many cases, providing a long term revenue stream that can be reinvested in further projects or other regional development programmes.”
The community projects are being led by Alton Energy and the Petersfield Climate Action Network, as well as being supported and mentored by Community Energy South.
In addition to the solar data, Energeo is also providing insight into grass verges across the District’s main urban conurbations.
The project follows the company identifying 40,000 sites that would be suitable for solar development in the London borough of Lambeth through a similar analysis in 2020.
