Renewable electricity supplier Good Energy has commissioned a 5MW solar farm near Wareham, Dorset and lined up a further three for development.
The 5MW Oaklands Plantation project takes the number of solar farms Good has developed and operates to seven and boosts the supplier’s installed capacity, including wind farms, to 52.5MW.
This is set to increase further in the coming months after the developer received planning permission for three additional solar farms across the south and south west.
Newton Downs in south Devon, Warren Park in Dorset and Delabole in Cornwall, when completed, will have a combined capacity of 12MW. The Delabole site will be located next to Good Energy’s wind farm, following on from other renewables generators Ecotricity and Vattenfall which have persevered with similar projects recently.
Juliet Davenport, chief executive at Good Energy, said that the commissioning of Oaklands Plantation demonstrated the firms “continued commitment” to owning renewable generators.
"The site will make an important contribution towards Dorset's renewable energy targets, and will also deliver benefits to local people in the form of a community fund and bespoke biodiversity plans,” she added.
