InnoEnergy has launched a €100,000 (£88,000) innovation competition for electricity storage start-ups.
Europe’s sustainable energy innovation incubator has partnered with the European Battery Alliance to support start-ups boasting either innovative technologies or business model concepts.
As many as 15 of the most innovative submissions will win a tailored suite of added-value services such as business support, training and funding, while the cash price will be awarded to the nomination voted as the best.
InnoEnergy said that firms with applications for storage in transportation, grid, distributed or mobile energy use would be of particular interest.
Bo Normark, thematic leader for energy storage at InnoEnergy, said: “Europe needs innovative electric storage solutions to support the decarbonisation of transport and heat through electrification. It is our mission to find businesses with unique and innovative concepts, products and solutions that have the potential to be part of the sustainable battery cell manufacturing value chain.”
Applicants are to be judged against a set of criteria including the value proposition, addressable market size, scalability and potential impact on the market.
The call for submissions is open now and will remain open until 30 October 2018, after which a five-stage process kick off. Following the initial application, an internal evaluation will start which leads into a five-minute video pitch for each submission.
An external expert assessment will then be conducted, after which 30 applicants will be invited to pitch their idea to two juries acting in parallel.
The 15 winners will be selected afterwards and the overall winner announced at a celebration event in February 2019.
