Lightsource BP has appointed two new senior executives as it looks to usher in its post-partnership era with a strengthened management team.

BP acquired 43% of Lightsource, one of Europe’s most prolific solar developers, in December last year marking its return to an industry it famously exited in 2011.

And now Lightsource BP is looking to kick on with the appointment of Carol Borg as chief financial officer and Randal Barker as general counsel.

Both will start their new roles immediately and be based in London, reporting into group chief executive Nick Boyle.

Borg makes the leap into solar PV from the wind industry having previously served as senior vice president and group CFO of Southern Europe, MENA and Latin America at Vestas Wind Systems.

Lightsource BP said her experience in harmonisation and internationalisation will “lead Lightsource BP into its next phase of maturity” while also pointing to her track record in improving financial integrity and process control as Lightsource BP looks to exploit new markets.

Barker’s most recent position was as general counsel to mining giant BHP Billiton. He will lead a team of 10 in-house specialists at Lightsource BP and oversee all of the company’s legal and regulatory matters.

He said that part of his brief is to ensure that Lightsource BP is “well equipped” for its projects in markets around the world, paying particular mention to India, the US and Australia.

“As we look to expand the business and pursue projects on a global scale, it is important to recruit experienced and talented individuals who can support us in the next exciting phase of our business, which focuses heavily on international growth,” Boyle said.
