Mongoose Energy has recruited Climate Group chief executive Mark Kenber to lead its fledgling energy supply business.
Solar Power Portal can reveal that Kenber will officially join the company tomorrow as its managing director.
SPP reported in December last year that the community energy group was intending to launch a supply business later this year, plans which were then firmed up two months.
Mongoose chief executive Jan-Willem Bode told SPP at the time that his company was “speaking to a lot of people in the market” and in April said that a senior management team was close to being completed.
Kenber will be joined in that management team by another recent hire in former Good Energy and OVO operations lead Nick Johansen, who has joined Mongoose as its operations director.
Bode said that by launching its energy supply business Mongoose was attempting to “change the very nature of how energy in the UK is owned and controlled” and welcomed Kenber to the business.
“Mark repeatedly demonstrated his phenomenal ability to affect changes that lead to social and environmental improvements. I can think of no one better qualified than Mark to deliver our goal,” he added.
Kenber meanwhile said Mongoose had a “fantastic opportunity” to realise that change.
“In particular we can look at innovations in demand side management and doing really exciting things to help people generate and consume energy locally,” he added.
Kenber has led the Climate Group for more than five years having taken the helm in January 2011, prior to which he was an advisor to Tony Blair on climate issues.
