Yorkshire-based wholesaler Zenex Solar has been bought out by renewable energy product distributor Segen, with the company’s new owner hoping to increase its customer-facing presence in the northern UK.

The deal, for which financial details have not been disclosed, was announced on Tuesday. Segen has focused on supplying solar PV products since 2010, having sold across various renewables technologies prior to that since its establishment in 2005. Selling to certified MCS installers, Segen also provides PV system design software online.

Zenex carries inverters, modules, microinverters and related products from leading global brands including LG, Solaredge, Fronius, JA Solar, Enphase, Solis and Trannergy. The company has a focus on face-to-face, hands-on sales, which Segen said was a key factor in its decision to purchase Zenex. Headquartered in Brighouse in West Yorkshire, Zenex Solar’s strength of position in the north was another attractive aspect of the deal, the company’s new owners said.

For Zenex, the hoped-for benefits of its acquisition by Segen include access to Segen’s online sales presence and the aforementioned PV system design software. Zenex Solar’s director of sales Liz MacFarlane said the deal was “great news” for Zenex and its customers.

“Zenex will retain everything it does well but with the added benefit of Segen's infrastructure and technology to help us become even more efficient. My team and I are thrilled by this next chapter in our development,” MacFarlane said.

Meanwhile Segen’s chief executive Andy Pegg also applauded the deal.

“We are delighted to be working with Zenex, they have an unparalleled reputation for customer service and quality. Our two organisations are certain to complement each other and enable us to offer more to our customers,” said Pegg.
