Following the closure of DECC, an energy and climate change select committee member has all but confirmed the disbanding of the group.

Speaking in London on Tuesday, James Heappey said that civil servants within the new Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy were likely to be recommending that one committee, instead of the current two, should take responsibility for its scrutiny.

Government clerks are said to have recommended the current BIS committee take over under a different name, leaving it unclear what experience will be applied to the energy brief of the new department.
